Have you ever wanted to do something daring, but you were afraid people would judge you? Do you ever feel that you deny your wants, desires, and dreams because they aren’t ‘normal’?

Life can be rich and fulfilling, if you let yourself shine! But how can we get out of a rut? How can we shock ourselves into a new way of life?

Jenny Lawson, also known as The Bloggess, received worldwide attention for her revolutionary Red Dress Project.

Suffering from bouts of depression and anxiety, she struggles at times, like all of us, but keeps a great sense of humor about life. She is brutally honest…and I love her for it!

Traveling Red Dress Project

Jenny had always wanted to wear a bright red ballgown in public – with no party to go to, no opera, no wedding.

“I want, just once, to wear a bright red, strapless ball gown with no apologies. I want to be shocking, and vivid and wear a dress as intensely amazing as the person I so want to be.

And the more I thought about it the more I realized how often we deny ourselves that red dress and all the other capricious, ridiculous, overindulgent and silly things that we desperately want but never let ourselves have because they are simply “not sensible”.

Things like flying lessons, and ballet shoes, and breaking into spontaneous song, and building a train set, and crawling onto the roof just to see the stars better.

Things like cartwheels and learning how to box and painting encouraging words on your body to remind yourself that you’re worth it.”

Her friend made her the dream dress. She bought it, and when it finally arrived she wore it with pride. She loved the way she felt! Then she sent it to people who need a little magic in their lives, and so began the Traveling Red Dress Project, which spread to people all over the world.

Here’s your assignment!

Ladies, look deep into your closet and find that lavish dress you only wear on very special occasions. Men, find something that really expresses who you are, but isn’t normal for everyday wear.

Wear it for a day!

People might be shocked and confused at first, but when they think about it more, they’ll realize that they just witnessed something fantastic.

Or make a list of things you’ve dreamed of doing, but never did because you were scared, like flying lessons, for instance. Research it, plan it, and just go for it!

Dare to be your true self…dare to be different! :)
