Zedd is the definition of a musical prodigy. Just as a preteen, he was spending his time composing and writing music for his post-hardcore trio, Dioramic. Since then, he has dipped his foot in the electronic music scene and has quickly become a booming success around the world. The young artist is nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording for “Clarity” featuring Foxes.
Zedd, born Anton Zaslavski, was raised in Kaiserslautern by his classically trained musician parents. He began playing music at a young age, starting with piano, moving to drums and even writing music of his own. It was in 2009 when Zedd heard music from the French electronic duo Justice, and it was then that he decided he wanted to take a stab at creating electronic music. In that same year, Zedd won contests to remix with critically aclaimed artists in the industry including Armand Van Helden and Fatboy Slim, which fancied the ears of Skrillex, who signed him to his own OWSLA label.
Zedd spent time remixing and releasing tracks and official remixes for huge stars including Lady Gaga, Black Eyed Peas, Swedish House Mafia, Skrillex – among many others. His remixes landed top spots on Beatport charts, and his remix of “Born The Way” by Lady Gaga appeared on ‘Born The Way: The Remix’. At this same time, huge EDM superstars including Knife Party and Armin van Buuren were taking their turn on Zedd’s own work.
In 2012, Zedd signed with Interscope records and released his debut LP ‘Clarity’ with his first single “Spectrum” featuring Matthew Koma. The single rose to the top of the charts and gained popularity in nightclubs and on dance stations all around the world. It finally landed a spot at #1 on Billboard’s Dance Club Song chart and was named the Dance Club Song of the Year.
Summer of 2012 was spent touring around the world and performing at music festival including Ultra Music Festival, Coachella, Lollapalooza, Electric Daisy Carnival – among many others, which he continued to perform in summer of 2013 also. His second single “Clarity” gained the same success as “Spectrum” and landed him a spot as the only opener for Lady Gaga’s Asian leg of her “The Born This Way Ball” world tour.
Only 24, this is only the beginning of a long and successful career in the electronic music industry. Be sure to tune in to the 56th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday January 26th at 8 pm EST to find out who will take home the award for Best Dance Recording, and stay tuned for more to come from Zedd in the coming months!
